Introgression of disease resistance in urdbean (Vigna mungo) by involving its related species

چکیده

Cercospora leaf spots is one of the major foliar diseases urdbean (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) causing a considerable yield loss. Screening germplasm and induction mutation has not yielded any source resistance. Hence, an experiment was conducted at research farm CSKHPKV Palampur, Himachal Pradesh during 2017–21 for introgression disease resistance in urdbean. A total 45 interspecific cross combinations were attempted between × moongbean [Vigna radiata R. Wilczek], ricebean umbellata (Thunb.) Ohwi H. Ohashi] adzukibean angularis (Willd.) Ohashi]. Only 12 crosses successful. SSRs used confirmation hybridity wide crosses. True F1’s phenotyped 13 morphological characteristics with respect to parental lines study trait expression. Most either intermediate both parents or resembled their male parents. Here, we also report hybridization Vigna through bridge species crossing strategy where F1 hybridized separately adzukibean. All hybrids showed resistant reaction spots.

Molecular characterization of urdbean (Vigna mungo) germplasm related to resistance against urdbean leaf crinkle virus.

Urdbean (Vigna mungo) is an important pulse crop grown worldwide. Urdbean leaf crinkle virus (ULCV) is a pathogen of urdbean found in Pakistan that causes huge losses in yield. Forty urdbean varieties/lines were screened against the virus under field conditions during spring season 2009. None of the lines appeared to be highly resistant or resistant. On the basis of a 0-5 disease rating scale a...

Evidence for Adaptive Introgression of Disease Resistance Genes Among Closely Related Arabidopsis Species

The generation and maintenance of functional variation in the pathogen defense system of plants is central to the constant evolutionary battle between hosts and parasites. If a species is susceptible to a given pathogen, hybridization and subsequent introgression of a resistance allele from a related species can potentially be an important source of new immunity and is therefore expected to be ...

BLACK GRAM ( Vigna mungo ) - A hypolipidemic pulse

Cardiovascular problems have been haunting human populations for a long time with no specific cure. It is believed that a shift in the eating, and physical habits might have paved the way for the alarming increase in cardiovascular diseases. Increase in the lipid level has been pinpointed as an important risk factor. Hence epidemiological and clinical studies were undertaken throughout the worl...

Antihyperlipidemic activity of Clitoria ternatea and Vigna mungo in rats.

CONTEXT Hyperlipidemia is one of the major risk factors for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. Some plants are effective in controlling hyperlipidemia. OBJECTIVE To investigate the anti-hyperlipidemic effect of Clitoria ternatea L. and Vigna mungo L. (Fabaceae) on experimentally induced hyperlipidemia in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS The poloxamer 407-induced acute hyperlipidemia an...

Genetic Confirmation of Mungbean (Vigna radiata) and Mashbean (Vigna mungo) Interspecific Recombinants using Molecular Markers

Molecular confirmation of interspecific recombinants is essential to overcome the issues like self-pollination, environmental influence, and inadequacy of morphological characteristics during interspecific hybridization. The present study was conducted for genetic confirmation of mungbean (female) and mashbean (male) interspecific crosses using molecular markers. Initially, polymorphic random a...
